Would you choose in-line verification of the thermal performance of your insulating glass that you can use to out-market your competition? Or the capability to make R-5 triples for about one third the current gas cost—or almost one-sixth less if you make asymmetrical triples?

Actually, you can have it all and now. How? With the award winning and patent-pending OptiGas 500 insulating glass gas-filling and thermal verification system from Integrated Automation Systems.

Introduced in 2011, the newly-updated OptiGas 500 now comes standard with integrated and automated ThermalCERT thermal verification. Previously, thermal verification required a separate ThermalCERT unit.

“While users like the potential savings and incredible gas filling flexibility they gain with OptiGas, they get really excited about verifiable and promotable thermal performance,” says Integrated Automation Systems President Mike McHugh. “We’ve put it into one unit and made it standard.”

ThermalCERT uses proven statistical process control methodology to verify and then save the thermal performance for every IG batch. Fabricators can put a ThermalCERT label on their IG and provide for homeowners a certificate verifying thermal properties for their units at time of manufacture.

McHugh said one window and door maker has built their 2012 marketing and sales efforts around verified thermal performance. “They are responding to consumer doubts with data showing Argon or Krypton is really comes with the windows and doors they sell. They see ThermalCERT as a major competitive advantage.”

The automated OptiGas system precisely fills IG air spaces with practically any proportion of argon or krypton from 95-percent argon to 95-percent krypton through a single wand. Successive units can receive a different gas mixes.

In addition, OptiGas uses a proprietary filling process to essentially eliminate any krypton loss. This reduces krypton consumption by two thirds for conventional R-5 triples to about $16 for an average double-hung. Go to asymmetrical triples and you can reduce gas consumption up to 86 percent to less than $6 per window.

Getting to R-5 using existing filling for an average conventional double hung typically costs more $42 in krypton, McHugh says.

“Gas-filling is an afterthought in most operations. The intelligent OptiGas system transforms it into a competitive tool,” says McHugh. “It includes the only in-line thermal verification process in the industry, all packaged so the typical operator can make better choices and produce better results with fewer errors than current systems.”

Other upgrades to the OptiGas 500 system for 2012 include a streamlined user interface and automated calibration of the thermal testing process.
